Head of PR Liam Solomon said: “Robert Downey Jr has already said that he’d “happily” return to the “role that chose” him, even after scooping his first career Oscar for a decidedly un-Marvel like role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

“And that’s why our traders have cut their odds down to just 6/4 to return.

“Avengers: Secret Wars is thought to be the biggest upcoming film on their schedule, and one that could bring characters from multiple universes together. 

“With Marvel films struggling to reach their previous lofty heights at the box office, our price-setters believe they could turn to the old guard to salvage profits.”

Scarlett Johansson and Black Widow Reunion at 5/2

Much like Iron Man, Black Widow was a one of the original Avengers from the first phase of the MCU, with actress Scarlett Johansson turning a secondary character into an iconic fan-favourite.

Solomon said: “After sacrificing herself in Avengers: Endgame, Johansson jokingly said a return for Black Widow would have to be a “zombie film.” 

“Although she said it would take “miracle” for her character to be reprised, our bookmakers have also dropped her price to just 5/2, indicating that a multidimensional reappearance is in the works.”

With long-standing MCU actor Anthony Mackie swapping his ‘Falcon’ gear for the stars and stripes of Captain America, the next instalment for the character – dubbed Brave New World – will see Mackie reprise the role having taken over in the TV show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Solomon said: “Much like his fellow actors, former Captain America star Chris Evans has refused to rule out a return entirely. Again, with Avengers: Secret Wars on the horizon, a multiverse scenario could unfold that also places Evans’ Captain America back in the MCU.

“Our traders expect Evans, along with Johansson and Downey Jr, to be in line for a dramatic return.”
